What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabi-whats? Cannabinoids are naturally produced compounds that make up part of the biological structure of the Cannabis sativa plant species, which includes the hemp and marijuana plants. You can think of cannabinoids like as ingredients to a recipe; in this case, the recipe is for the hemp plant. While these cannabinoids are critical, they only form a part of the recipe. The other ingredients are flavonoids and terpenes.

It's worth mentioning at this point that our bodies also produce cannabinoids as we are all equipped with a network of cannabinoids receptors throughout our bodies (more on this later). While cannabinoids found within plants are called phytocannabinoids, the cannabinoids found within our (and many other species) bodies are called endocannabinoids.

What are the Different Types of Cannabinoids in Cannabis?

A single hemp plant contains over 100 different types of cannabinoids, each with either a slightly or entirely different purpose. The challenge in understanding each cannabinoids purpose is attributed to them not all existing at either the same time or in similar concentrations. Many of these cannabinoids are only present while the hemp is in it's growing phase, others need exposure to specific elements, for example, sunlight or atmosphere to develop.

Generally speaking, mature hemp plants (used to extract the pharmaceutical-grade CBD for our Flora Farmacy CBD products) contain very similar ratios of cannabinoids including CBD, CBC, CBN and many more! CBD makes up the majority of the share of cannabinoids contained within hemp, while the others feature only in trace amounts. Using our state of the art machinery, we can isolate specific cannabinoids and convert them into our Flora Farmacy CBD Oils, Capsules, Balms, Gummies, Vape E-Liquids etc...

How Do Cannabinoids Interact With Us?

Over countless years of evolution, humans, dogs, cats, reptiles, birds (you get the idea) have developed a unique regulatory system that consists of millions of cannabinoid receptors spread throughout our bodies. ...Introducing the Endocannabinoid System, or ECS for short.

When cannabinoids are consumed, in CBD's case, this is usually orally or sublingually, they pass through our digestive tract and are eventually broken down by our liver before entering the bloodstream. As these cannabinoids travel through the body, they interact with the receptors within our ECS.
